Laboratory Assistant- Microbiology 3rd Shift

The Laboratory Assistant reports to the QC Laboratory Lead or Supervisor. The functions of the Laboratory Assistant include but are not limited to the following:
+ Prepare laboratory reagents/media as required (weighing/measuring, mixing, heating, dispensing, labeling, sterilizing, and storing)
+ Maintain inventory of reagents/media
+ Clean and decontaminate laboratory glassware
+ Stock the laboratory cabinets with the necessary testing supplies
+ Assist in the performance of some of the basic testing (pH determination temperature readings, visual determination, etc.)
+ Assist in the acquisition and control of testing supplies
+ Assist in some of the clerical functions of the lab (data input, copying, filing, etc.)
+ Assist in some routine laboratory operations and/or instrument maintenance (verification of temperature devices, changing of temperature/humidity charts, laboratory waste disposal, verification of balances, calibration of pH meter, operation and maintenance of steam jacket kettle, operation and maintenance of steam sterilizer, cleaning equipment and surfaces, etc.)
+ Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, talking, hearing, pulling, fingering, grasping, wringing
+ Must be capable of accurately discerning instrument read-outs or displays. Good color discrimination. Must posses appropriate manual dexterity for lab operations
+ Maximum lifting height 6 feet. Occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds and routinely up to 25 pounds. Standing for extended periods of time
+ Accepts direction from supervisor

As a rule, the Laboratory Assistant is subject to controlled indoor conditions with some temperature change from occasional tasks outdoors or in the warehouse. Will be exposed to materials that are hazardous. Will be exposed to unpleasant odors (characteristic of chemistry and microbiology laboratories). Personal protective equipment is provided. Lab coat is required at all times when in the microbiology laboratory.,
+ Possesses basic communication (English) and computational skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
+ High School education or GED equivalency at a minimum, Associates degree preferred
+ Conscientious approach to responsibilities and a facility for learning
+ Written communication must be legible, clear and understandable.
+ User level computer skills with common office applications (Microsoft Office)
+ Knowledge of common metrology (balance, thermometers, graduated cylinder, pipet aids, etc.)
+ Exposure to laboratory practices from school or previous experience preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
